The Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH) project is a 90-ha site located 25km northwest of Melbourne’s CBD. Upon completion, it will host the largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Australia and Asia.
Designated a State Significant Development, the MREH received planning approval from Tanya Plibersek, the Australian Minister for the Environment and Water, in October 2023.
The BESS will capture energy from various sources – the grid, solar, wind – and will store it for reliable, clean, and affordable electricity for power system operators and energy consumers.
