Technical Specification - Permanent Diesel Engine Driven Pump
Sydney Water has introduced a new specification which formalises their technical requirements for the procurement of a packaged emergency diesel engine driven sewage pump.
The pump must be complete with an acoustic enclosure, pump self-priming system and control equipment to be suitable for permanent installation within Sydney Water’s facilities, such as sewage pumping stations and treatment plants.
The new specification should be used by all parties procuring this equipment for Sydney Water.
Permission to Enter
Sydney Water has updated their permission to enter guidelines to facilitate a smoother process and allow Sydney Water to assist if required.
The permission to enter guidelines outline:
- The developer needs to attempt to contact and engage with the affected property owner via the “Access for WSC” letter,
- This must be done three times over a reasonable period (6-8 weeks),
- Communication attempts should try to engage the property owners in different ways
e.g. door knock, registered post, mailbox or email.
If there is no reply, or if the owner refuses to enter negotiations, then the developer can involve Sydney Water. They will review the communication and engagement attempts and also try to speak to the affected property owner. If unsuccessful, Sydney Water will give the property owner a ‘Notice of Entry’. This is a significant improvement compared to the previous arrangement
If the affected property owner engages legal counsel at any time while negotiating with the developer or WSC, the process must stop and Sydney Water is to be notified.

$385 Million Upgrade to Richmond Road
With the ongoing growth occurring in Sydney’s North West, the NSW Liberal and Nationals Governments have recently announced that they have allocated $385 million to transformRichmond Road. This significant upgrade forms part of the $5 billion WestInvest Program.
The upgrades have been split into two funding packages:
- $285 million for planning and early works to widen a 2.2km section to six lanes between the M7 Motorway and Towns on Road and to build a new off-ramp bridge to connect Richmond Road to Westlink M7.
- $100 million will support works to widen a section of Richmond Road between Elara Boulevard and Heritage Road at Marsden Park to four lanes.
“This is a rapidly growing area and we need to ensure families, tradies and truckies can rely on this key route to get to work and home to their loved ones.” - Minister for Metropolitan Roads, Natalie Ward.
Orion has a substantial presence in Sydney’s North West both in, and around, Richmond Road. And as a regular user of Richmond Road myself, everyone that mentions Richmond Road to me quickly understands that this is a much needed upgrade!
We look forward to the delivery of this much needed improvement to Richmond Road.

Survey
Orion Group have been working with NSW LandRegistry Service (LRS) as part of an exciting new pilot program to streamline the lodgement of plans on a new platform – LRS Connect.
LRS Connect features:
- Enable multiple parties, including Surveyors, legal professionals, Valuers and Government Agencies, to contribute to AdministrationSheets concurrently.
- New tools to efficiently create Digital Plan Files.
- Enhanced workspace to accommodate all plan lodgement scenarios.
As more Government Agencies utilise the platform, we are likely to see a reduction in time to obtain final sign off on Deposited Plan Administration Sheets. We’ve noticed some of the AdministrationSheets look different but they are still acceptable for Registration.
