It is an exciting time for Orion Group, having recently relocated our Wollongong office from the suburbs to the action-packed CBD.
Since acquiring KFW in December 2020, we’ve expanded into Survey and Water Service Coordination (WSC) and have secured the Sydney Water licence accreditation. Being based in the beating heart of Wollongong now better aligns with Orion’s vision and growth trajectory. Now that we’re closer to Wollongong City Council, we can continue building on that relationship for optimal project outcomes.
We’re growing
Our team is expanding, with four full-time staff in the structural team and our WSC team has grown from three to eight people, evolving our services. Notice how many cranes pepper Wollongong’s skyline? Orion’s WSC team does a lot of work in the built-form space, including building plan approvals, a service our other regions don’t yet provide. Our small-to-medium size allows us to be agile, responding quickly to tasks with accurate pricing and a focus on quality and commitment.
Our values: Integrity, Reliability, Quality Service
Peter Harding, our Wollongong Manager, has significant commercial and industrial experience in the energy sector. He leads our structural team and drives our work in renewables, like solar farms and battery energy storage systems. Orion is excited by this as it deeply aligns with our sustainability values.
Housing affordability is another space we’re passionate about impacting, and we’re eager to do more regional work. We’ve started operating in West Dapto, New South Wales’ fastest-growing residential area outside of Sydney. We aim to continue establishing ourselves and securing more projects in West Dapto, as well as to play a role in increasing market supply and addressing the housing crisis.
Staff wellbeing
Are Orion staff enjoying our office move? You bet they are! Welcomed perks include the modern fit-out, stunning ocean views, and convenient nearby inner-city eats and entertainment. Staff have even started a walking club to take advantage of scenic lunchtime strolls. We have generous work flexibility to suit individual needs, and James Green, Head of Urban Services, explains that being a young company leaves room for expansion and for our staff to grow with us.
“We’re looking to recruit more senior engineers to lead the younger team members,” James says. “We get to work on exciting projects, and you get direct access to managers and decision-makers in the business,” he says. “But we don’t just chase growth for the sake of it. We ensure we get good people, treat them well, and keep them around.”
